Here at Nest & Wings, we believe children thrive when guidance is clear, positive, and respectful. We support children by helping them understand what to do, rather than focusing on what not to do.

Our approach:

  1. We tell children what to do instead of what not to do.
  2. We show them by modeling the behavior or using visual cues.
  3. We clearly and simply state what we expect.
  4. We remember that young children may use inappropriate behavior because they are still learning social rules and are not yet able to apply them consistently.
  5. We speak to children using language they understand, avoiding negatives that may be confusing, and focusing on clear, positive directions.
  6. We encourage children by acknowledging their efforts and recognizing when they are showing the desired behavior.
  7. We understand that some children respond better to calm, matter-of-fact acknowledgment rather than strong enthusiasm.
  8. We are warm, encouraging, and generous with positive guidance, knowing that most children benefit from frequent support and recognition.
